Hey there friendlings,
Hope you’re all good! Today’s blog is an interview with one of the most popular South African teenage artist, Christy Erin. With over twelve thousand supporters and several fan pages, Christy has definitely become a teenage role model. Her love, kindness, humility, hard work and positivity is among several things she portrays.
Without any further ado, please enjoy my chat with Christy,
1.Has it ever hit you that you’re such an influential and impactful singing icon to many South Africans?
Hey Han! No, it didn’t hit me but it has affected me a lot. I feel very blessed whenever I think of the fact that I have so many people supporting me and showing me so much love. It’s nice to have someone give you the motivation to reach for your dreams and every single day I wake up to so many beautiful reasons to why I should sing and my supporters are the main beautiful reason amongst all the other reasons too. So it wasn’t a hit, more of a punch.
2.Have you ever run out of ideas when writing music? If so, how did you finally put together a song?
I have countless songs that I’ve written. I’ve only ever written about personal experiences and things I’ve gone through as a person. I wouldn’t say I run out of ideas but whenever I’m having some trouble writing due to my own experiences I always take a friend of mines experiences and write about their experiences that have had an impact on me (with their permission of course haha).
3.What projects are you currently working on?
As you may know already, I do songs with Likhona Kamane. He’s such a loser (to me) but he’s the best. We are currently working on a song which will be quite different to “need me” and I can’t wait to get into the studio when he comes back!
4.Which celebrities do you believe are the most influential?
There are so many influential celebrities out there to many different fans. I for one, idolize Rihanna. She is one of my biggest inspirations and I just think she’s absolutely amazing. If I were to say there’s one celebrity that can influence the entire world (teenage wise) I’m sure it would be Justin Bieber or Selena Gomez.
5.On what do you spend the most: clothes, accessories, perfumes, underwear, or anything else?
I definitely spend the most money on clothes and makeup (surprise surprise) I just love shopping and playing with fashion + makeup!
6.Do you have any advice for any South African trying to pursue a singing career?
For any South African trying to pursue a singing career, my advice to them would be that it’s hard. Especially in our country since we don’t revolve around the media whereas places like holly wood do. All I can say is you need to get yourself out there in any way possible, be it singing on the streets, your school choir, church choir, YouTube, Instagram or posting some of your own work/covers to SoundCloud. I’ve been singing all my life and I’ve never wanted to be anything more than a singer…
7.Where do see yourself in the next five years?
I only realized this year that nothing is going to just come my way unless I work for it. That’s when I decided to do my own music with Likhona and post it to SoundCloud. Be prepared for hate. I don’t receive a lot of hate anymore but when I posted the song it was a shocker to many people and they felt the need to say rude remarks about it and my singing. It really affected me but I got past it and realized that nothing anyone says should get in the way of doing what you love.I’m not the best And I’ve gone through very serious difficulties that I haven’t told my supporters or anyone really when it comes to my singing and my voice. You don’t need anyone to teach you how to sing. Just practice practice practice and never be shy of your voice ever. The more you practice the closer you are to finding your sound. I haven’t found my sound yet but I heard it’s the best feeling ever when you do. Always have hope in yourself. You do you and don’t let anybody tell you anything.I can’t predict the future but I see myself in 5 years as a better me doing what I love and being completely happy. (Hopefully married to Justin Bieber)
Any final words?
Thank you so much for interviewing me, Hann! It was so much fun 💖
