Hey there friendlings,
Hope you’re all good! On Today’s chapter of Chit Chat with Hann we are joined by a South African singer who is amongst some of the most influential female artists. She is humble, kind and is always willing to share some positivity. She is definitely on the path to success and I’m so glad that I’ve been given the opportunity to chat with her. Ladies and gentlemen, kindly welcome … **drumroll**…
Gabriella (Gabi) du Plessis
1.Has it ever hit you that you’re such an influential and impactful singing icon to many South Africans?
Wow, thank you so much! I have never thought of myself as a ‘singing icon’ in South Africa. There is still so much I need to learn about both music & the music industry, and so many goals I can’t wait to reach. I look up to South African artists such as Karen Zoid, Lira, Yolandie Visser (you may think she’s weird but I think she’s brilliant) & new artists such as Ryki – I could only dream of achieving the things that they have achieved. I am, however, super lucky to have such an amazing and supportive platform for social media which allows me to have an influence and impact on many people, and especially young girls lives. If I can impact and influence just one person in a positive way, I couldn’t be happier!
2.Have you ever run out of ideas when writing music? If so, how did you finally put together a song?
My whole life is one huge creative flow! I can usually write about anything, anywhere and at any time, depending on how inspired I am feeling. I definitely do go through stages where I feel uninspired and therefore have no ideas. I find that it helps to write and collaborate with other people (I write a lot of my songs with Nate Duvel, a super talented producer/songwriter friend of mine) or just to wait for the writers-block to pass.
3.What projects are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on a whole lot of new singles (and maybe an EP) which I will hopefully be releasing this upcoming June/July holidays. Other than that, I try to work as hard as I can every day to get better and better!
4.Do you have any celebrity icon who you find to be inspirational?
I think there are so many celebrities which are influential, who could use their platforms in a different way in order to serve a purpose and inspire. I think that Leonardo DiCaprio is a great example of someone who has used the fact that he is so influential, in order to do something great through the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
5.On what do you spend the most: clothes, accessories, perfumes, or anything else?
I spend most of my money on food…
6.Do you have any advice you have for any teenager trying to pursue a singing career?
Keep doing what YOU do, the way YOU do it & never take no for an answer.
7.What do you see yourself doing in the upcoming years?
I definitely see myself doing what I love, which is anything to do with the arts! I don’t know where all of this will take me, but wherever I go or whatever I do, I just hope it makes me happy.
