Hey there friendlings,
Happy Weekend! This month I decided to make it a Chit Chat month in which I talk to bloggers, YouTubers, and photographers!
I had the privilege to start this Chit Chat month by interviewing the one and only, Ashley’s Lens, a beyond talented photographer, YouTuber, and blogger. I hope you enjoy my interview with Ashley.
At what age did you start to have an interest in photography?
When I was 9 years old my grandfather passed away and I was left with his vintage film camera, camera bag and a map of Botswana marking where the elephants where. He used to track their paths and take wildlife photos of them, I suppose this is the mental seed of photography was planted. When I turned 12 I started modeling and I noticed that going to castings and posing wasn’t really my thing as it wasn’t really creative, but I wanted to continue in that industry so I changed to the more creative side of it and started experimenting with the family camera.
What tips do you have for people who are passionate about photography but have no access to a high-quality camera?
This is is a very difficult question. How are you supposed to improve without the equipment to do so? I know everyone has probably heard this but equipment really doesn’t matter when it comes to photography. I don’t have the best camera in the world, I actually have a pretty cheap camera and the cheapest lens, but I push it to its limits. I did my research and learned every nick and cranny of my camera. whether it’s a professional DSLR or your iPhone, you should just learn everything you can about your equipment as you can, you’d be surprised the kind of images you can get with an what you have.
If you could live in any city in the world, what city would you live in and why?
I’d rather not stay in one place at all, to be honest. When I was younger I lived in many different countries (I think I’ve been to 7 or 8 schools) and I’ve fallen in love with so many places that it would be impossible to stay in one for too long (but if I have to choose, probably London hehe)
What fashion accessory/ clothing item can you not go without? (I.e.: earrings, crop tops, glasses, etc)
I feel bad for having such swirly and indefinite answers! I’ve got very strange fashion sense. I usually look like a hobo who had a love child with the creator of the internet. because I’m always looking for something stupid but cool to wear. BUT I always wear this silver ring I bought for my self in Bali when I turned 16, it means a lot to me.
What is your favorite social media platform and why? (I.e.: Snapchat, Instagram, Pinterest etc)
I’m a sucker for Instagram, as basic as it sounds I could scroll for hours and it has (ironically) ruined my social life many times. but Snapchat is also my main girl. I love the aspect of temporary sharing, it makes me want to share raw moments instead of filtering them and making them perfect.
What is your favorite holiday to celebrate?
CHRISTMAS – most of my early childhood was spent in London and London takes the cake for most beautiful city at Christmas, it’s breathtaking, also everyone in London is 10% happier because its the only time of year everyone is grateful for the cold weather
Who is your favorite YouTuber? ( If you don’t watch YouTube then who’s your favorite Blogger ? )
I AGGRESSIVELY WATCH YOUTUBE. no, but really, I can’t narrow it down to one, here are my top ten (I’m sorry but I’m also actually not sorry)
Dan and Phil
and me hehe (subscribe!)
What is your favorite quote/ saying to live by?
I don’t know where it’s from or who said it but
“you don’t have to be the best at what you’re doing, you just have to be the happiest.”
Lastly, If you had to eat one food/ snack for the rest of your life, what would it be?
sushi, or hummus. or both? (yum)
